Your hometown pharmacy since 1893

The pharmacy that knows your name.

Since 1893, Fernandina Beach has filled its prescriptions at Waas. No ticket numbers, no endless hold music — just a pharmacist who takes the time to answer your question, and a gift shop out front worth browsing while you wait.

Meet the pharmacist behind the magic

You'll be talking to Katie

Katie Kotopka, Pharm.D.

At most drugstores you never actually meet the pharmacist. Here, she's the one at the counter — the same person who fills your prescription, checks it against everything else you take, and answers the question you were nervous to ask.

No ticket number, no callback queue, no being handed off. Ask her anything about your medication and you'll get a straight answer in plain English, from somebody who'll remember you next time.

Off the clock

The same family you see around town

Katie and her husband Ryan are raising their family here, and you'll run into them well outside the pharmacy — on Sunday mornings, in the bleachers, and on a ball field somewhere in Nassau County most weekends.

That's the part a chain can't copy. When you hand your prescription to Katie, you're handing it to a neighbor who is going to see you again on Sunday.

Our story

Serving this island since 1893

Waas Drug Store has been filling prescriptions in Fernandina Beach for more than a hundred years — before Florida had paved highways, and long before there was a chain drugstore on every corner. Generations of Fernandina Beach families have had their prescriptions filled here.

We're still locally owned, and we still believe a pharmacy should feel like part of the neighborhood: an old-fashioned pharmacy and a small-town store all in one, where somebody knows your name and your health is genuinely our concern.

Common questions

Things people ask us

How do I transfer my prescription to Waas Drug Store?
Call us at (904) 261-3171 with the name of your current pharmacy. We handle the paperwork with them for you, so there is nothing for you to pick up or drop off.
What are your hours?
Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm. We are closed Saturday and Sunday.
Where are you located?
1551 S 14th Street, Suite 1, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034, with parking right at the door. We are on South 14th Street, not downtown on Centre Street.
Is there a lab in the building?
Yes. A LabCorp patient service location shares our building at 1551 S 14th Street, so lab work and your prescription can be one stop.
Do you do custom shirts and embroidery?
Yes, both. We take custom t-shirt orders for teams, reunions, businesses and church groups, and we do embroidery and monogramming in house on shirts, hats, towels, bags and baby gifts. Bring your own item or pick something from the shop.
What is A.I.F.B?
A.I.F.B is the Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach crossed monogram we designed ourselves. We own and license the design, and our store is the only place it is sold. It comes on tees and Richardson hats.
Do you sell gifts as well as filling prescriptions?
Yes. The gift shop is a real part of the store, not an afterthought: hand-painted wooden door hangers, tea towels, embroidered baby gifts, handcrafted Christmas and the A.I.F.B collection, alongside a full pharmacy.
When is the Christmas Open House?
It is one day a year, usually a Saturday in November, 10am to 4pm, with appetizers, punch, raffles and free gift wrapping. We post the confirmed date on Facebook and Instagram.
